Hose Hobbles & Piping Chokers for High-Pressure Hose Safety | Hand Helmet

Hose Hobbles and Piping Chokers

Handling heavy-duty hoses and pipes carrying high-pressure media presents serious safety concerns, particularly if a hose or pipe connection fails. Hand Helmet Hose Hobbles and Piping Chokers provide secondary restraint systems designed to help reduce potential damage and injuries caused by hose or pipe joint failure.

Manufactured in the USA, Hose Hobbles and Piping Chokers are designed to protect against accidental hose disconnection and help control excessive whipping of high-pressure hoses. These restraints are durable, flexible, and resilient, with high-strength tagging and resistant nylon coverings for improved durability.

HOSE HOBBLES SYSTEM

Features

Hose Hobbles are installed outside the joint of industrial-grade pipes and hoses to create a secondary safety line if a connection fails.

The hose restraints are manufactured from heavy-duty materials and incorporate sturdy, heat-treated alloy steel clamps with chain or cable restraints. They are designed for high breaking strength, with a minimum breaking strength of 16,000 pounds for each rotary hose safety clamp.

Clamps for Hose and Pipe are available in a wide range of sizes, from approximately 1/2 inch up to 48 inches. Different clamp configurations are available, including 2-bolt and 4-bolt styles, along with custom-made sizes according to specific application requirements.

Hand Helmet provides hose hobbles and safety clamps in multiple sizes, pressure ratings, and bolt configurations to suit different high-pressure and low-pressure applications.

Testing Certificates

Our Hobble Systems are designed in accordance with international safety requirements and are supplied with rating certificates.

High-pressure hose clamp systems are tested to support compliance with applicable API standards. Testing and certification may include:

  • Pull testing

  • Load testing

  • Pressure rating

  • Application performance

Correct sizing is essential to achieve the intended performance of the restraint system.

Hose Hobble Configurations

To match different applications, Hand Helmet provides several hose hobble configurations. Selection can be based on the required flexibility, restraint strength, installation method, hose or pipe size, and application conditions.

Chain Style

The Chain Style Hobble System combines heavy-duty materials with engineered construction to provide reliable restraint and safety performance.

The system is designed for straightforward installation and can be used for both temporary and semi-permanent applications.

Steel clamps are positioned at each end to restrain the hose or pipe joint. These systems are commonly used as secondary safety equipment during rig operations.

Chain-style hobbles can also be used as an alternative to wire hobbles when greater flexibility and movement are required, such as when a pipe must be moved or positioned at different angles.

Cable Style

Cable Style Hose Hobbles are designed to provide increased resistance and secure high-pressure hose connections.

They can be used on rotary hoses and other high-pressure hoses where additional protection is required against accidental connection failure.

The cables are manufactured from strong steel alloy using a braided construction. Each end is connected to heat-treated steel clamps with a bolt-fastening mechanism.

Cable-style models generally provide higher restraint ratings with less flexibility, making them suitable for use as fixed Oilfield Hose and Pipe Restraints.

Type A

Comes with 1 clamp and is available with either:

  • Wire rope cable

  • Chain

Type B

Comes with 2 clamps and is available with either:

  • Wire rope cable

  • Chain

Single Clamp

The Single Clamp configuration incorporates one clamp on one end, while the opposite end includes a punched hole that can be bolted to a suitable anchorage point.

The restraint can be supplied with either:

  • Wire cable

  • Chain

PIPING CHOKER

Piping Chokers, also referred to as flow-line restraint systems or red iron slings, are used as secondary safety equipment in the event of accidental separation between pipe connections and during pipe handling operations.

By restraining a pressurized pipe following a connection failure, Red Iron Slings help reduce uncontrolled pipe movement and the potential damage associated with pipe whipping.

Piping Choker Features

Red Iron Slings are manufactured using strong polyester restraints.

They are designed to provide:

  • Reliable performance

  • Durable construction

  • Easy installation

  • Secondary protection for temporary pipework

These restraints can be used with temporary piping systems where an additional level of protection is required.
